Mr Smith’s Mysteries
As anyone who’s seen my instagram photos knows, my magical work builds upon the foundation laid by scholars like Jake Stratton-Kent, whose "Geosophia" opened new/old avenues of exploration. New in Grimoire practice but very old in terms of how our ancestors did magic. This blog will be a way to take these concepts into the realm of practical application. At the core of this system is a reinterpretation of the 36 decans of the zodiac, as described by the ancient Persian magician Ostanes. I've combined this with the Egyptian rulership of these decans, honoring their origins.
With this as my guide I've followed JSKs lead and integrated spirits from the Grimorium Verum, aligning them with classical deities and astrological concepts. Through my studies, I've come to see that these spirits are not the scary bogeymen of magical lore, but rather incredible teachers and healers.
A key concept (maybe innovation?) in this system is the concept of "celestial rivers" - energetic flows that connect seemingly disparate points of the zodiac, unveiling hidden relationships and mythological parallels. These rivers, while mapped in the sky, harken back to the ancient Egyptian and Mesopotamian concept of the celestial underworld, where the stars and their movements were seen as reflections of this otherworldly realm.
By working with these celestial rivers, we're not just practicing astrology or magic - we're engaging with the cosmos in the same way our ancient predecessors did. We're rediscovering the sky as a realm of mystery, power, and transformation.
Importantly, I see this work not just as a magical technique, but as a reconstruction of the initiatory experiences once offered by mystery cults. It's a path of transformation and spiritual growth, accessible to those who feel called to a higher purpose.
While this might sound revolutionary, I believe I'm simply doing what magicians have always done - learning, practicing, and sharing knowledge to further develop our tradition. The grimoires of the 17th and 18th centuries preserved these mystery traditions, and now it's our duty to modernize and continue this literary magical practice.
Hopefully the next one of these will materialise quicker than our second podcast episode ;)
